Therapy dog rescued from being caught and killed

Mulan, a former stray and actually a therapy dog helping children with disabilities in a program run by VIER PFOTEN, has been attacked by city hall dog-catchers this morning, but eventually saved thanks to people's immediate reaction. Anca Tomescu from VIER PFOTEN stated that on December 2, 2013, at 6.30 a.m., around 20 vans and 15 – 20 catchers appeared and pinned down poor Mulan into a netting. She managed to finally take her back, after yelling at them. Any dog owner should be careful: the city hall catchers receive 50 euros from public funds for every dog they bring in, irrespective of whether it is a stray or an owned dog.

Mega Business in Gaiesti

MEGABUSINESS !
The town Hall of Gaiesti wanted to give a nice gift to a "litlle brother firm" of about 30,000 EURO, for the management of stray dogs.

A new megabusiness with stray dogs is in the making. After our newspaper ( Cronica de Gaesti ) has revealed the luxurious fees spent for the sterilization of stray dogs ( 237 Lei/dog ) to a vet clinic in Gura Foii, the Spring came to propose to the local council a trick as big as the people Palace...Actually, judging from testimonies from a number of citizens, a large number of animals have been killed ( they did not survive the sterilization ) or have been caught repeatedly and killed with bestiality, even on apartment buildings, stairways, as well as people properties.
According to some veterinarians, at this point in time there are fewer than 100 dogs in Gaiesti. But, the Town Hall wanted to give a gift to a "little brother" like firm of 30,000 Euro, for the management of stray dogs.
The head of investments department, Marilena Barbu, pleaded with all her heart, expressing her sorrow for the vote in the council. However, she could not persuade the elected officials from NLP and DLP. "I am mom caterpillar who knew who must be Director at the Culture House, the administrator of the market place, chief administrator at the hospital...and now I know that this is a business for the Marculescu family," said Calatin Slavila, NLP, during the meeting.
Based on our information, the town hall employees were supposed to capture the dogs and transport them to the shelter. Then, the vets were supposed to release them back on the streets, so they could be captured again, in order for invoices to be issued on public money...as much as his pen allows him...
Finally, they proposed to help by helding an auction in order to choose which firm will manage the stray dogs...NLP and NDP voted in favor, but DSP voted against.

Ask Victor Ponta (PM of Romania) about stray dogs culling and poor conditions in public shelters

Do you have any questions about #Romania? Write them down in the comment section and we'll pose some of them to Victor Ponta (Prime Minister of Romania) in the next edition of Global Conversation. #AskPonta

This initiative is launched by Euronews. Your questions can be asked here ( A Google + profile is needed.)

Some guide lines and ideas on what to ask him:

- Is he aware of sanitary conditions on public shelters and the way stray animals are treated by the personnel, when caught? Is he aware that they are starving and that euthanasia means being beaten, while no food is provided for those to be put under soon with once again much cruelty involved? That they are poisoned and beaten to death by the personnel or even simple citizens? That videos and photos recently taken contain all these atrocities and are available on the Internet?
- How can the Romanian government ensure yours and other EU citizens' integrity of mental health, after watching these atrocities still taking place in Romania?
- How can the Romanian government guarantee yours and your dog's safety, which is one of your legal rights (also protected under the European law), while visiting Romania? Your dog risks being brutally taken away from you, while strolling, without any legal justification.
- How can the Romanian government be prevented from violating your right to freedom of movement together with your pet, should you dare visit Romania... Being afraid to travel to Romania because your dog risks being kidnapped, beaten or poisoned breaches and restricts your rights.

The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union enshrines certain political, social, and economic rights for European Union (EU) citizens and residents into EU law. After the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon on 1 December 2009, the European Union must act and legislate consistently with the Charter and the EU's courts will strike down legislation adopted by the EU's institutions that contravenes it. The Charter applies to the Institutions of the European Union, and its member states but only when the latter are implementing EU law.
Your integrity and mental health as well as children rights are included in this Charter. The right for free movement is one of your four rights recognized by the EU treaties.

And don't forget: 2014 EU elections are approaching: Write a letter to your EMP, express to him/her your concerns about your right to free movement in Romania or other EU countries that implement similar measures. Draw their attention to the violation of your integrity and mental health, when such instances occur in other EU states and your "property" (ie., your pet) is at stake, while traveling to pet unsafe EU states.
Ask your EMP to eventually include animal welfare within the scope of the EU, so that the European authorities can immediately draw laws for its protection.

Enclosures and Shelters in Europe

Esdaw (European Society of Dog and Animal Welfare) is setting up a map containing public enclosures and private/NGO shelters in Europe !
The map is gradually growing... Indeed, most of the shelters are located in Romania. Feel free to check out and come up with new information or correct the old... Some enclosures need to be changed to green, but it's not really that important.

The important thing is that we and everyone can see and show politicians the extent of all these enclosures, where companion animals are imprisoned for various reasons .... keep sending info to us...... country, city, municipality - everyone can use this information, once completed.

Making The Link - THE European Study on psychological effects of children regularly exposed to community animal abuse

The 'Making The Link' study is THE European study identifying the psychological impact on children who are regularly exposed to community animal abuse.

In this world, in which we all live together, nothing occurs on its own. Changes reverberate throughout society and resonate globally, in sometimes hitherto unexpected places.

We, humans, label and place ourselves into various categories. Nature does not make any discrimination or distinction. Everything is interconnected.

Not only do animal abusers introduce interpersonal violence issues and distort their own psychological development, but they also impede social development. Significant research into the LINK between such connections has established that in societies, where animal abuse is ignored, children suffer, and, as the children are the citizens of our future, society is bound to suffer too.

Protect one... another is protected... protect the yet another... and society is protected!

Description
This website introduces the 'Making The Link' study - THE European study to identify psychological effects of children regularly exposed to community animal abuse and evaluation of efficacy of interventions.

The study was initiated by Teesside University (UK) to explore the connection between exposure to endemic abuse in social environments where no previous research had been conducted. 'Making The Link' will seek to evidence the impact which abuse has on the children of these lands... on the people... on the societies. And it will also demonstrate how easily positive change can be effected.

Although multi-dimensional, the study has a central objective of exemplifying connections between animal abuse and a child's psychological health and behavior with its resultant impact on societies. The efficacy of creating positive change by introducing interventions will be evaluated to explore their ability to enhance the quality of both a child's life and the attendant positive effects on society.

The ‘Making the Link‘ program has been credited by leading US academics involved in this field as ‘Amazing!‘ and as ‘The biggest LINK study ever attempted‘. Support comes from, among others, National Link Coalition and Institute for Human-Animal Connection who are the world leaders in this domain.

Most assuredly, the project is unique. In addition to promoting positive attitudes towards animals and in humanely reducing numbers, thereby providing a safer life and reducing the number of potential ‘victims‘, it will create and exemplify that positive societal change can be achieved, reduce anti-social practices, enhance children's psychological health and enforce redundant laws. But perhaps most importantly in a region which embraces around 20% of the European continent with similar issues, a pioneering model would be created to demonstrate to all municipalities and authorities that an effective solution is available to enhance the quality of life within their remit of care - for both people and animals.

A major collaboration of world-leading international organisations and academics have created the 'Making The Link' project to bring change... in the belief that a new tomorrow CAN be created for the children and animals of these lands.

This is their birthright! And ours to give.

HUNGER STRIKE IN FRONT OF ROMANIAN CONSULATE IN MILANO

We need to show our sustained support for people who went on hunger strike, in front of the Romanian Embassy, in Milano, Italy. Their aim is to protest against the cruel injustice exerted by politicians, who started a stray dog massacre by allowing and voting for the barbaric law of "euthanizing strays", which legalizes and promotes violence against owned and stray dogs alike in the Romania of today!

WAD on October the 4th: HELP ME GATHER NECESSARY info to BOYCOTT ROMANIA

Dear animal rights activists, dear NGOs, dear everyone who loves animals or hates seeing humans rights and innocent lives (human or animal ones) being abused and taken this way, HELP me find necessary key data about Romania
such as:

1. Reports from your Embassy's Economic section about companies of your country who invested in Romania
2. Travel agencies that deal with Romania
3. Romanian products sold elsewhere

HELP ME ESTABLISH A LIST on what or which companies to boycott

And REMEMBER: On October the 4th, we have to stand up for their rights:

STAND UP AND DEMONSTRATE outside your EU local office
Demonstrate at every EU local office and ask EU bureaucrats to immediately start an audit on funds given to Romania and every EU member state all these years for infrastructure, neutering/spaying, animal transport, stray animals population control or other funds given to member states and are related to animals.

STAND UP AND DEMONSTRATE outside the nearest Romanian Embassy or Consulate

It's time to end culling of stray dogs in Romania for fun or for some 40 or 50 Euros per head.
It's time to educate Romanian people.
It's time to stop giving our money for "Made in Romania" products and services or to companies who invested in Romania and keep alive Romanian economy. Find these companies, services or products and stop buying them!

For info on Romanian products, companies to boycott, or if you would like to translate this into your language, please contact boycottrmania[at] gmail [dot] com.
